Carrefour and iBeacons enhance the customers shopping experience in three branches store in Madrid. They patched the iBeacons on the shopping trolleys and baskets, as well as sensors attached to the ceiling of the stores that pick up the signals emitted.

The same trials also being implemented by convenient store Nisa in three locations in London. iBeacons with a cloud-based server will collect location data for analysis. This analysis can benefit the retailer to improve their comprehension on how shoppers behave inside the stores.

Furthermore, this technology is intended to identify not an individual shopper himself but rather focus on the shopping cart. According to the plan, the first step is merely to determine the carts’ locations, rather than identify the shoppers using them.
In next couple months, for instance, iBeacons can be used to integrate iBeacon use with the supermarket loyalty card.
