Getting to Know Industrial Internet of Things

Internet of Things as what we usually heard has been a major topic for recent years. As many predicted million devices connected and billion investment in few years, Internet of Things player has never stopped innovating ever since then. IoT innovation widen from what we do in a daily basis to what industry do to disrupt their business.

Industrial Internet of Things is simply another variety of IoT implementations. Made for the big one such as industry or company needs and basic needs that’s used in major implementation. It’s basically still Internet of Things but for corporation and manufacturing.

The intelligent instruments that are connected to the Internet and can think in Industrial Internet of Things  will create a revolution in industry. Based on what you have thought what Internet of Things impacts in daily basis. Industrial Internet of Things comes in to disrupt how industry works. If you get it from here then you must have imagined some of implementations of Industrial Internet of Things. Here are some of them:

1. Smart Lighting

This might be a thing you can see on a daily basis but it is also important in manufacturing. Lighting accounts 19% of global electricity use. For example Europe pays over €10 billion each year to power street lights. With IoT that creates Smart Lighting, it could save more energy used. Intelligent street lighting dims when no activity is detected, but brightens when movement is detected. Saving world’s energy and earth.

2. Smart Home

Internet of Things at home is a usual thing. Basically some homes have installed thermostat which can control lamp or air conditioner. But with IoT it could be so much better. It could detects intruder or at least non family member who’s sneaking to your house. 90% of consumers say personal and family security remains one of the top reasons to purchase a smart home system. With motion sensors, glass breaks detector, and door/windows detector  home owner will be alerted if there’s some intruders activity inside the house.

3. Smart Logistics

An example that’s a part of manufacturing. Logistic system should be fast and detail in order reaching manufacturing goals and deliver the product fast. Thousands of products such as medicines and food must be sorted and transported at low temperatures. With IoT truck can manage these temperatures itself. By detecting temperatures, any changes will be detected and it can switch the temperatures inside the truck. Or if there’s any danger, an alarm is raised and an action is sent. This can reduce long term operational cost with a quick action on a small problem.

4. Smart Agriculture

The Industrial Internet of Things is predicted to increase average income in the US between 20% and 30% by 2030. That also means IIOT saves more energy than usual. The Food & Agricultural Organisation of the UN predicted the global population will increase to 9.6 billion people by 2050. In order to keep up with population growth, food production must increase by 70% too. Technology will also be a part of this. With previous example, IIoT can be used as temperature detector and managing plants soil. Through IIoT, our plants will let us know about the soil situation and their condition creating smart Agriculture. Smart farming could increase crop yield by 20 million tonnes by 2025 and increase overall productivity by 15%
